Spring Obsessions

Last night, I made a quick run down to the store at a time when I usually don't venture out. As I was driving, I spied some interesting clouds that were obscured by the trees and buildings along my path. As soon as I was finished at the store, I drove out of town just a bit to an open area where I could get a proper look.

It was like the sky couldn't quite make up its mind what it wanted to be when it grew up, so just put on ALL the available sky clothes at one time. This made for an arresting sight...

There was the remains of a failed thundercloud and some hangers on that seemed to be reluctant to move along. It was quite beautiful and mysterious looking in person...

The fair weather won overnight, and today the sky is mostly blue with white puffy clouds around.

I have been in an obsessive mood these last few weeks to reclaim territory in the yard and garden. To take back what entropy and relentless encroachment are always attempting to do around here.

This was the entrance to my garden this morning:

I think this rug has been there for at least three years maybe four, and it was coming to pieces. The marble slab came from a stone working shop downtown that puts out scraps for free.

Over the years, I have hauled granite sand from the mountain to put around this entrance to keep it from turning into a mud puddle. It works wonderfully well for that, but the grass and weeds always try to take over.

I took up the old rug and edged the area, leveled it off again, and took up the pavers and weeded. It was MOST satisfying, I have to say....

(You DO realize this is a garden right? Why are you putting a brand new rug in the dirt? What is wrong with you?)

Well.

I don't know. It works? It keeps the walkway easy to get in and out of with carts and law mowers. Keeps the mud at bay. Is a complete weed barrier, unlike sand or gravel, it's cheerful?

Take your pick.

(I'm going to quote your late mother on this one. "You're weird.")

Yeah, she often said that to me, and to anyone else who was listening.

(She knew what she was talking about.)

Perhaps.

But isn't it a pretty rug?

(It's going to be covered in dirt and grass stains before the week is out.)

Buzzkill.

(Reality checker.)

Nice garden! Good luck with it thjs Spring, Summer, and Fall time.

The sky in that first cloud pic is the kind that takes my breath away, where the only thing I can say is wow!

I relooked at the picture you mentioned, and incline to agree with you.

I love both photos of the sky but I think my favorite is the second one with white fluffy clouds just above the mountain range - and the gray cap above them.

I can hear your dear Mom commenting about your interests and explorations. Keep exploring and sharing 😉
