Sleep? What Sleep?
Sat Aug 23 2003

My "go to bed" early theory works pretty well. Unless nature brews up a crash bang, rip snorter, Nelly bar the door, KAABOOM! gully washer, "Wake up the kids, they gotta see this", midnight thunderstorm.

It was so surprising to be having a storm like this in August. I can't remember when it has rained here at this time of year. Usually I go around singing that song from the 60"s... Cool Clear Water...and daydreaming about seeing a cloud.

I haven't checked the rain gauge yet so I don't know how much we have gotten so far. It poured buckets last night. This morning I managed to get in my walk before it started raining again. Right now there's thunder and lightning and its pouring down rain again. It's great!

This storm has had lots of lightning with it. We got up about 11:30 last night to watch the show and we are pretty sure at one point lightning hit our communitiy's water tower that's about two blocks from here. Thank goodness for lightning rods what what?

Whammo !

My yard and garden are dancing for joy, soaking up real rain, not that fake sprinkler stuff.

I hate to leave Robbie home alone as he is not fond of thunder, but it won't be too bad as these days he can only hear the really big ones. Ordinarily he would be hiding under our bed right now, but he's over in his usual spot in the kitchen only mildly agitated because I can hear him panting.

He used to get so upset during a thunderstorm that the best way to calm him down was to sit on the floor right next to him and cover him with a blankie. He figured what he couldn't see wouldn't hurt him. I'm not sure how he was processing the thunder part under there, but somehow he managed.

It's starting to let up a little now and the sky is getting lighter. I wonder what the rest of the day will hold for us?

This is so cool!

I just checked the rain gauge and we have a little over 1 1/2 inches of rain.

An end of the summer blessing.

A big KABOOOOOOMMM!!! woke me up at 3:00am. Took me an hour to get back to sleep, and this was a morning I had to get up early. Well, not 5:30am. Even with the blinds closed and the covers over my head, I could still see the flashes of lightning.

But,but the time I did get up, the storm had passed, and I was able to do "my thing" after all. Mmmm. The air smelled so good!

    Shalom!

p.s. re the wood fire vs wood stove, its intriguing the differences eh. for example: did you know that our torch and your torch are vastly different? our torch is your flashlight and your torch is an open flame on a stick, am i right?

Enjoy the rains- poor Robbie! I love the thunderstorms so I'm thinking wistfully of all the spectacular dramatic weather you're having.

I sure wish that we would get some of that rain, but not all at one time.

RYC: It is easy to post music. Copy and paste this in at the head of your next entry: <bgsound src="http://captain-dave.com/Captain_Dave's_Country_Memory_Lane/Whiskey%20River.mid"loop=infinite>

Between the quotes aways goes the address (URL) of the selected midi. there are 1000s of midi sites, and with most of them to get the URL, you right click on the selection, and then copy it and paste it in between the <bgsound src=" and "loop=infinite>. If you need additional help give me a yell and I will give you some sites to use. Good luck.

Well, we didn't get the rain and thunder up here in the mountains so I'm jealous!
I love your new icons...and your roses, too. Thanks for your comment on my entry...it really makes you think about things doesn't it? How do I go about notifying you of an entry (that is, of course if you want to be notified)? By the way....at the risk of exposing my lack of vocabulary....what is luddite? I saw the word used on my reunion site and now I'm curious. Ta,Ta
