Addendum

So I made a fig upside down cake.
It is fantastic.
I can't give you the recipe.
I faked it from beginning to end.
I broke all the rules.
But it's fantastic.

I'm a dried fig person myself. Fresh? Bleh...
How wet is my valley?
Very, very wonderfully wet!
Have fun packing!

I love fresh figs. In order to score any I have to be in just the right store (Whole Foods or New Seasons) at just the right time. This seldom happens so I don't get them very often; once a year if I'm lucky. And then I wince at the price, splurge on a little basket and feast. :)
The cake does look good though. I could be persuaded to try just a nibble.

Cool, the cake looks lovely, but I'm not mad on figs, either. ;-)

There are a lot of OLD fig trees around here. I really enjoy fresh figs. But they have to be really ripe. I don't think I've ever had a dried fig, except the ones wrapped in Newton, that is. Oh, and I've had little bits of them in fancy Cabernet sauces a couple of times.
