Out With the Old, In With the New

Yesterday an entire crew of linemen came to our place to remove two old power poles and replace them with metal ones. It was fascinating to watch.

Our power was off for 8 hours, but we had plenty of notice and were prepared. The trickiest part is there is a well, and when there's no electricity, we have no water.

Mr. P has a solar generator that kept my refrigerator going for the first half of the day, then he plugged his in for the rest of the day. That was very helpful.

Here are the men getting ready to remove the old pole, which they basically just pulled straight out if you can believe that. Like pulling a tooth or something!

There were a few minutes between the new and the old where we had no pole at all. I wanted to take a picture of it to see what it would look like without that right in my view all the time....

Here's a picture of the new pole at dusk.

It has no crossarms, and is at LEAST 6 to 8 feet taller than the original one.

It was just a treat to watch them work. Every man knew exactly what to do for the next step in the process. No one was standing around, each person had multiple things they were responsible for. It was like a tradesman's ballet, I kid you not. It was very entertaining and I hardly noticed that the power was out, all I did was watch some very skilled men doing a flawless job all day!

Especially at the very end, when one man up in the bucket meticulously wired the lines to the transformer. I could tell he was particular about where the loops were placed. He kept adjusting them to his liking.

There is still a pile of dirt where I usually park. They said someone would come and get that.... but no one knew when it would happen. I hope it's not TOO long. I want to put Sir Isaac in the shady spot again. And since they moved the pole over several feet, I will now be able to tuck him up further out of the driveway a little bit, which will be nice.

It's almost 80 degrees here today. I wonder if that is a record breaking temperature. I'll have to go check that. Because it FEELS like it could be!

The first thing I saw in your photos was the flowering tree in the background. Then the green grass. Then the power pole 🤣 Can you tell I'm starved for spring to start?

I think we all are waiting patiently for spring to arrive hereinWisconsin State as well. Looking forward to warmer weather. Even during real nice winter days because my windows were opened durimg the days (nice days) while I was home during the day.
