Are We Still Here?
Tue Dec 16 2003

It must be Monday.

I am over the flu. I got up early and walked for 40 minutes with my neighbor. I did all the laundry. I wrote 5000 words on my novel and I cleaned up some more in the garden. And finally, I am about to go out to yoga class which I missed all last week because I was sick.

Things feel back to normal.

Normal is good.

The fruitless pear tree that turned color so suddenly, is just as suddenly dropping it’s leaves. It’s three quarters bare now and the little stunted faux fruits that were invisible under all those leaves are now dangling like little ornaments all over it. We put the bird feeder out on the patio finally and it’s been a zoo out there. All kinds of birds are showing up. The chickadees like to fly up into the pear tree and eat their sunflower seeds there. They look so cute hopping around among the few remaining yellow leaves and fruits.

We have cut back the butterfly bush and the potato vine in a drastic way this year as they were taking over. I even pulled one butterfly bush completely out. I want a garden, not a jungle. The earth was so moist that I could pull a very large bush out without even a shovel. I was surprised! Maybe I am developing super powers and don’t realize it …

I planted alyssum under the peach tree and put in some woolly thyme along the retaining wall. And there are now blue and orange violas growing in two planters by the front porch. I feel like I am taking back my garden from the chaos monster.

DearDiary has been up and down, here and then not here for quite a few days. I hope they get things squared away soon. I hardly know how to go on in my day without checking in on some of you!

I got here without any problem at all. Maybe it's fixed. But let's not hold our breaths.

    Shalom
