Sigh....
Tue May 02 2006

I don't know about you, but when I see signs like this in yesterday's protest, it does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

It saddens me to the core that this symbol:

that used to stand for the thing that made this country great, the ability and the desire to welcome those less fortunate or those oppressed to come join us in our quest for a society of like minded people, has been warped into the idea that what we have created by the sweat of our collective brow, should be made free of charge and without effort on the part of anyone who wants to sneak across our borders.

It's thievery.

And I know it sounds funny, but it's incredibly bad manners too.

It's the lack of humility that astonishes me. I am a born citizen of this country, and I don't think the government owes me anything in the way of livelihood or health care or food or shelter. I figure that's my job.

But what I DO think they owe me is a secure border, from all enemies foreign, domestic, . . . . or illegal alien.

The legislators better start paying attention to their job, or they may find themselves looking for other work. Very soon.

It appears to me that the voting public doesn't have enough gumption to vote out legislators who aren't doing their job. Hence, term limits. That's like throwing out the baby with the bath water.

A continent and NOT a country? US of Mexico? Where did those sign holders go to school? These make me a little angry. If you want to come here so badly, because it is such a great place to be, why do you want to change it? They are sending a lot of mixed messages here. Hmmmmm.

Ok, the "United States of Mexico" is just dumb, but the other sign, "America isn't a country it's a continent," is half right. It's actually two continents. North America and South America, both named for the Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, 1454-1512. He was the first to recognize that these were new continents, not unexplored regions of Asia. This is why we are called The United States of America. We are not the only country in "The Americas" and no country "owns" the name America, even the U.S.

I'm sure I've been guilty of it before myself, but there are people who have very arrogant attitudes. I pray to God that we ALL receive the humbling experiences we need to become contrite.

    Much love....Parett

The 'people' I was talking about were the Illegal Protesters.
