The date: October 9.
The time: 3:36 PM
The temperature? 81 degrees.
Are you kidding me?
This would not be much of an issue except for the fact that in three days time, it is supposed to rain for several days in a row. Ordinarily, that would cause me to do a jig and bake cookies for the occasion. But there is this little problem of a garden that is in need of clearing out. Today I went out in the morning and worked for about an hour and a half pulling old tomato, cucumber and sweet pea plants and hauling them to the burn pile. I made myself stop because I was getting overheated.
Then Mr. P needed help loading up some firewood from a big stack that he has had drying out in the sun all summer. So we went out at 2:30 [!] and started hucking wood into the pickup to move it to the barn. At this point I WAS officially overheated.
I have come into the house determined to stay here for the remainder of the day. After a nice shower, I refuse to break a sweat until sometime tomorrow when another garden clean up session must commence.
It's time for fall. Autumn. Change of season. Damp leaves and crisp cool air. A good frost. Fresh squeezed apple cider .... [oh my Aunt Gertie how I love fresh cider!] Curling up by Bruce at the end of the day, thawing out my toes. . . . THAT.
Not sweating under the blazing sun in a sky so blue it looks like a laser beam from space.
I live in the Temperate Zone of the world.
I'm ready for some actual Temperance.
/END RANT
I'm ready for the weather to insist I stay indoors and work on art journal pages... here are the last two weeks of September ...
And week one of October in progress...
I still have some bits to finish on this one.
Last night, before I could talk myself out of it... [I've been having a bout of lack of confidence in my watercolor skills again.] I saw some watercolors of Koi on the computer and decided I would try my hand. I literally just grabbed a bit of watercolor paper and sat down with the water brush and dove in. Kind of like psyching yourself out by jumping in the deep end of the pool while casually walking along the edge minding your own business.
I think it worked.
Ever since I saw my son's Koi pond in person... I really sort of fell in love with these creatures.
They are very beautiful.
Anyway. That's the state of the homestead today.
Awaiting the rains.
