Goose Week
Fri Jan 27 2012

I had the distinct pleasure of spending time with some of my knitting peeps today. Beforehand however, I decided to take advantage of the change in location and took a nice 45 minute walk. It must be the week of the Canadian geese, because I saw a pair of them wandering around the office buildings. It seems an odd place for geese to choose for a hang out spot. Last time I was down this way I saw a whole flock of them meandering around. Today these two were the only ones around. On the way back I spotted something I had to get a shot of... I always admire this plant [ornamental kale] when I see it, but have never planted any myself. I may have to change that next year... Somebody remind me okay??

Actually, it IS goose week! This weekend is the Snow Goose Festival up here in my neck of the woods, and one of the stops on the tour is my son's college. His campus is also a wildlife refuge. Last semester my son was the publicity officer for the Friends of the Refuge club and his girlfriend was President. Huell Howser went last year or the year before and the episode was on KVIE just this past week. My son and his girlfriend took great delight in pointing out their teachers in the background of certain scenes during the show. It was really great fun. I think if you go to the website http://www.snowgoosefestival.org/ you can watch videos or even make reservations to come up. I think you'd really enjoy the trip! When I went to the college to pick them up the other day I came upon a couple of deer, does, one a yearling. They know it's a safe place and they are darned near tame. They will stand just a few yards from you and listen while you talk to them as long as you don't try to come closer. It's really kind of amazing that they let people get so close.
