Is There A Nurse In The House?
Thu Aug 10 2006

Hub Man had his elbow operated on today. He had an old bone chip floating around from a broken arm he got when he was a kid. Well, it's gone now, and the nerve that it was irritating has been rearranged.

When I took him over to the clinic this morning, I was all loaded down with knitting and reading and writing materials and sudoku puzzle book and sack lunch. I somehow figured 3 hours was the time frame. When they told me it would be over 5 hours till he would be ready to come home, I took all my toys and came home.

They called me when he was awake and I toodled back over to the outpatient clinic feeling like I was picking up my puppy at the vet.

He was a little wobbly and urpy, but just as goofy as ever. Shooting off one liners as usual. Just in a slurred voice that was rather amusing in its own right. His arm is in a soft cast for two weeks. I don't think he was expecting that part. This is going to be interesting.

We got him home and ensconced on the couch, surrounded by pillows and clean sheets whereupon he immediately fell sound asleep for two hours solid.

I have a feeling it's the only quiet time I'm gonna get for quite some time.

Now that he's rested and Vicodin'd, he's already talking about cutting off the cast.

I may have to call in reinforcements.

PS.... They didn't let him HAVE the bone chip.

Bummer.

Oh boy, you're gonna have your hands full! Don't make the mistake I did tho. My ex had his wisdom teeth removed. I pick him up from the surgery, practically carried him into the house, got him comfy and off to sleep and I went back to work. Later it occurred to me that if the house ever caught fire, he wouldn't have woken up. Don't leave him unsupervised when he's on the Vicodan! And if anything, and I mean anything, doesn't look right, call the doctor!!! In the meantime, get the camcorder out and film some funny moments! TP

He doesn't expect to have a bell next to him to call you with does he? I've known people who have tried to pull that over on their spouses in the past, it never ends well!

Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery, and you for keeping your sanity!

He didn't get to keep the bone chip? Now that's just rude. People get to take their kidney stones home, and they can't let him have a little ole bone chip?! Tch!

Well, heal fast, Leprechaun, and don't give your wife undue stress.

    Shalom

Have been through three surgeries and one procedure with R I know exactly where you're coming from. The really wonderful part is that they have no idea what you're talking about later when you bring up those 'good times' you had together as you waited for the anesthesia to wear off.

I do hope he heals quickly and is able to appreciate the benefits of the surgery (no more bone chip) as soon as possible.

Tell him you'll find a nice Brunhilda or maybe a Bruno; someone large and hairy who can sit on him if he does not mind his really real nurse. :)

    Get well soon Hub Man.

Dude! They didn't give him the bone chip????? That would have kept him amused through his convalescence and made you're life much easier. I'd sue the hospital for pain and suffering on your part!

I hope Hub Man is okay and not in pain!

RYC: Yes, the whole 'Future Shock' thing . . . modern life is definitely overwhelming even on a good day! Even for those of us who try to minimize the chaos.
