Harry Pottered Out
Mon Jun 07 2004

Oh dear, oh dear, what shall we do?

I want my money back for one thing.

Yes, that would do for a start.

And I want my money back directly from the director to whom this rant is directed!

Post haste!

Now, before you get me wrong.... I love Harry Potter. I enjoyed reading the books. Even though sometimes JK's plot twists get a LITTLE tedious. And I greatly enjoyed the first two movies. . . .

This one however just didn't cut the mustard. IMHO. The new director moved the furniture for one thing. Everywhere, he re-arranged the proverbial furniture. Inside Hogwarts and outside. The former elegance has been replaced with grime and decay. Why? And what's with moving Hagrid's cottage? The point of that would be????

The kids did a better job of acting, but they should by now. They have experience. And it's true, there were a lot of plot trails to follow. But certain characters were only seen briefly, so briefly that it makes you wonder why they bothered. I don't know, I'm just grumpy about the whole thing to tell you the truth.

And the one thing that I would love to discuss with the so called director about, AT LENGTH, is why he felt it necessary to have Dumbledoor sporting dirty fingernails. What was THAT all about?

I have decided that books can be wonderful things, but it's truly rare when movies are.
No movie maker in the world (with or without a bag full of digital toys) can match my imagination.

We still love Harry. But I refuse to speak of "He who must not be named" ... the director of this film without a couple of ptu ptu's aimed at the ground.

All I can hope is they do a better job next time.

Chin up Harry. You may pull out of this yet!

I was disappointed by some things that were left out, (the second Quiddich game immediately comes to mind) but was so distracted by the circus behind me that I had a hard time really getting into the movie.

I'm hoping to see it again so I can really form a good opinion.

You are now the second diarest I know who has seen Harry Potter and you are the second one who didnt care much for it. Dark and Dreary was the other diarest comments about it. Now two semi-bad ratings I am wondering if I should bother to see it! I will be waiting for it to come out on DVD then I may go rent it. Sounds like this one isnt worth movie theater prices.

Dang! I Hate the dirty, grimy look so many directors seem to think is Cool. Drat. I loved Hogwart's the way it was.

Well, at least I know what to expect. Dang again.

    Hugs,

I think you've hit it on the head when you say *No movie maker in the world (with or without a bag full of digital toys) can match my imagination.* That's the point. Imagination is so much more fun. ;-)

My Mom took the kids to see Harry today and had complaints as well. I think I'm the only person in the US not to have seen any of the movies so I can't comment.

The hook, indeed, is wooden. Big ol' P hook that I bought from this site:

Beautiful stuff for a great price. :o)

Interesting. You didn't like the movie for the very reason several reviewers I've listened to liked it. The new darker, more sinister feel seems to have gone over well with those paid to have opinions about movies. I'll be waiting a few weeks before I go to see it. I suspect I'll enjoy it more after the frenzy has died down a bit.

As for scone, the only permissible additive is currants. However, if you can make a decent clotted cream, you might tempt me with any receipe that doesn't have chocolate in it. Scones were not intended to be candy!

I enjoyed it greatly, and so did everyone in our group of 30 who went. I do know they left things out, but you have to realize that the screenwriter had to condense a novel to 100 pages of script. I think this new director did a great job, and made you feel like you were actually inside Hogwarts and not looking at a pretty snow glob full of fairies.

There are of course things I would have like to have seen, just like I'm sure all those who've read it will have their own favorite parts. I love Professor Lupin, I got the feeling right away that he really truly cared for Harry and his parents. I loved seeing Sirus, with that crazy look in his eye with Ron thinking he was going to kill him—it was great! About Dumbledore's dirty nails, he is a wizard and I think in people minds Wizards and witches aren't the cleanest creatures. But who knows, maybe he's always been in need of a manicure—we've never gotten the close of a shot of his hands before. He's the headmaster, not the cook thank heavens.

I think this is the best one yet, but this in my own opinion. And there's always room for another opinion—it's what makes this country great anyhow.

As with Lord of the Rings, which I have not seen yet, I am a little afraid of watching the movies as I have such clear pictures in my mind of what the characters look and act like that I know I will be dissapointed. I saw an advertisement for LOTR and Gollum is just NOT what I have always imagined him to be. As alway, for me, the book is always best!

The font I have been using (and which is my favorite) is Bradley Hand ITC. I always add ,Tahoma, Arial after it so that if someone's browser doesn't support it they will see the type in my second and third choices rather than their default font. I added bold, Italic, and size plus 2 as well.

The quilt is one we bought for use in our house. I've had it now two years, and finally got it out here as it will be a year and a half probably before we are in the farmhouse. We got it in an antique store, though it has tags on it and is not antique. However, I liked it so much I had to have it. *smile* Thanks for the compliments.

    Love,
    Anne

You are the second diarist that I have seen who has seen the movie and been disappointed. I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I guess I will have to see it to see what this is all about.
