The de-cluttering saga has reached the unholy grail.
My closet.
I cannot believe how many times I have rummaged around in that space, and gotten rid of things in what I thought at the time was a ruthless purge, only to find that it has filled itself up again while I wasn't watching.
This time, ruthless doesn't describe my agenda.
I went through some old family archives and found some 'blast from the past' items that will remain with me unless we encounter TEOTWAWKI. The only things I parted with were the crumbling boxes that contained the three baby books from my sons and a few oddments of paper that have lost their meaning in the mists of time.
I have finished the first of three tiers in the closet. The next level are the clothes hanging in there. This will be my most difficult task. I hold many of my possessions pretty lightly, but I must admit that I get attached to my clothes. Maybe it's because they are something that is so intimately associated with our bodies, or that you have to spend so much time hunting for them hither thither and yon, hoping to find something that suits your size, fashion sensibilities, and budget. No small task as we all know.
Anyway, I decided that I won't tackle this one today. I just finished the top shelves and got rid of three boxes. I need to gear up
( I thought you were trying to get RID of gear….not to put too fine a point on it.)
…. wait, bad phrase, fortify myself for this job. I think it will involve a good breakfast tomorrow morning, a brisk walk in the morning air, vitamins, and Creed on the stereo. Turned up LOUD.
Then I may take the resulting pile, [I hope it's a pile] to Goodwill straightaway so that I don't have time to change my mind. And I must say, in these matters, "out of sight, out of mind" really is true for me. Two weeks from now, I won't remember what I got rid of, which sort of shows you just how important these things REALLY are to me eh?
During this closet phase, I encountered my knitting and yarn stash. I spread out my current inventory since I had it all in front of me, and took a picture. Here's the latest…

These have now been carefully packed away in their respective plastic storage containers ready to be launched out into the world when the opportunity presents itself.
When the closet is finished, the only two places left for me to work through are the kitchen and my little corner of the garage. These places will be much less worrisome to deal with.
(Famous last words.)
I don't see YOU clearing out YOUR clutter! Your office makes Olivander's look positively regimented by comparison. Unless you want ME to get in there and work MY magic, I would advise you to keep your trap shut.
(Very well.)
Damn straight.
