If there was such a thing as the doldrums of November, my ship would be floating in them.

Drifting. Waiting. Sounding the depths. Water slapping the hull. Sails furled.

I'm in the, not yet Thanksgiving, Winter approaching, I have to wait 6 months for my Irises to bloom.... doldrums.

What does that word mean anyway?

I'm glad you asked ....

Main Entry: dol drums
Pronunciation: 'dOl-dr&mz, 'däl-, 'dol-
Function: noun plural
Etymology: probably akin to Old English dol foolish
1 : a spell of listlessness or despondency
2 often capitalized : a part of the ocean near the equator abounding in calms, squalls, and light shifting winds
3 : a state or period of inactivity, stagnation, or slump

That pretty much sums it up. Hmmmm, note the etymology.... akin to the word "foolish". Interesting. Does this mean one would be a fool to hang out in the doldrums? I think that is true. Not only foolish, but dangerous on the high seas.

The Rabbi says that Joy is the thing. (insert incredibly long, compelling, and detailed Judaic dissertation [here]. ) Just trust me, Joy is THE thing....

I'm packing my bags, like Samwise Gamgee. Cooking pot and all. Carrots and potatoes and if bacon were kosher, I'd pack that too. Isn't it time for elevensies? We'll have Scottish baps and apple butter and hot tea. Make mine golden Chai.

Break out the oars, dust off the compass. I'm off on a journey. And I'm headed for the shores of Joy.

I'll leave the Doldrums to the foolish.

Good riddance.

The journey into Joy is glorious indeed. Remember to untie the rope of unforgiven hurts that can keep your ship firmly anchored to the dock. Lift the anchor of daily burdens and set sail on the good ship Gratitude. Delight in the journey. It can be as beautiful as the destination with many wonderful places to experience along the way.

    Don't forget to send a postcard. :)

    Shalom

I have heard others who live in the Northern Hemisphere say that November is a depressing month - cold, wet and dark, with deep winter ahead.
Sounds like hoisting the sails on the good ship "Joy" is the way to go.
A positive attitude will surely help you steer straight and true.
    Take care :)

when I read I think of something perfect, like cakes and potted plants, clean kitchen, but I only read a bit, it could be the mask of red death floats just above your head and fear keeps you inside the gingham pattern of life
