Blue Skies
Tue Aug 20 2013

This morning I sat next to the open window while I ate my breakfast. This may not seem like anything remarkable, but it was, because we have had a bad forest fire not too far from us for weeks that has filled the valley with smoke. Sometimes bad, sometimes worse, sometimes down right scary, according to the way the winds were blowing. … or not as the case may be. Open windows are not to be taken for granted any more. But today, it looks like they have that fire under control, and our skies are almost clear. I can still see some high haze however. I'll be glad when it all goes away. We have had hot weather too, but the nights are starting to cool off so nicely. As I sat there, I almost decided to put on a sweater. Then I  considered how I was going to feel at three this afternoon, and thought I should spend some time memorizing the feeling of being just a tad too cool, to help me cope with 95 degrees later on. The hot weather has been keeping me out of my garden too, except for pouring the water on it to keep things from wilting. But today I needed to get over myself and take care of business. So I got up early and went down there with my game face on. I weeded the whole garden and found out that turning your back on your crookneck plants for more than two days is a very bad idea. There were some really knobby large squash that were looking WAY more like gourds. I picked everything. Half were edible, half will go Mr. P's chickens I think. I found some treasures...
