Fri Nov 28 2003 - The Green Bean Thing
The Green Bean Thing

Have spent the day with family, snacked a bit too much, but it was all worth it to have a nice helping of green bean casserole, which has become my favorite thing about Thanksgiving. For my overseas friends, It is canned green beans with cream of mushroom soup baked in the oven with french fried onions on top.
A gourmet I am not. :-)

We are heading to the mountains in the morning to have a second Thanksgiving with my parents. Maybe I will be in charge of "The Green Bean Thing" as my youngest son calls it. So I will get to eat it twice in one week! Yipee!

And I just want to mention how proud I am of our President Bush for surprising the troops in Iraq today. I thought I had voted for the right guy. Now I'm sure of it.

For those of you who celebrate it, I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving...

I like green beans with sliced almonds.

Isn't this the time when it's legal to stuff yourself beyond all comfort? Isn't there a law, or something, about it?

Shalom

Hi there...I just got home and it is just about 12am and I haven't had the TV on all day. Just what did President Bush surprise the troops with? I'm dieing of curiosity. Enjoy your greenbean casserole again. We were ten short of the full crew today at my inlaws and still had 34 to sit down for dinner. All the cousins are very fertile...starting with my grandchildren there have been 14 births in the last three years. And boy are they noisy!!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope you have a lovely thanksgiving. The green bean thing sounds great apart from the mushrooms (ick!) from what little I know of Judaism you guys are eminently more sensible stretching Hannukah (did I spell that right?) over 7 days, instead of one big streesful way too commercial day.

I first learned of it as "Mary Ann's Old Southern Green Bean Thing," and have since changed the recipe to french-cut (drained) canned green beans and cream of chicken soup (or cream of celery, to be vegetarian). I also stir french-fried onions into the mix before baking and then put more on top. Always a hit! Yum!
