If It Ain't Working, Change It!
Tue Jul 31 2007

Well, those of us not getting our notifies muddle along. I understand it is not ALL over DD land, so I am sure it is some nonsensical thingamabob that is not working.

I have been going to the 'recently updated' list and trying to find you on there, all my friends. If I am not commenting, it is because I have missed your post somehow.

I am scratching my head about what to do, because if the notifies aren't working, then maybe my notes to our Fearless Leader are not getting through either.

In the meantime...

After a particularly unsatisfactory shopping day recently, in which I drove a long ways to a particular store for a particular thing we needed and found out when I got there, they were out of it. . .

I made a decision.

I am changing my shopping habits.

I travel A LOT of miles to get the food and other necessities for our house. Too many.
I have decided that I need a proper pantry. I intend to stock up. And when I go to the store, I am going to buy two when ordinarily I would only buy one. If I could get it down to one big shop a month, with only short trips to the closest store for fresh vegetables and fruit and milk, etc. That would be great.

I am forever running out of things and I'm heartily annoyed by it. Driving around here is bad enough in good weather, but doing it in the heat of summer is positively inhuman.

SO.

Hub Man and I are building shelves to turn our hall closet into a pantry. The only things in there now are vacuums, extra jackets and a shelf with craft supplies and family archives. There's room for those things in our other closets. So today I am straightening my big closet to make room for that stuff and hope to empty out the hall one completely by tonight.

I figure we will have four shelves when all is said and done, and they will be almost 2 ft. deep. I won't be able to reach the top one much, so I will put paper towels up there or something like it. Then I am going to rearrange my kitchen so I can find things again.

When you keep a kosher kitchen, you actually have two of everything. One for dairy foods and one for meat. Two sets of dishes. Two sets of cookware. Two sets of silverware. Two sets of food storage containers.. .. you get the idea. So the poor food has gotten stuck in some very inconvenient places in my overcrowded kitchen. Actually my kitchen is huge but with the 'two sets' situation, it is just adequate. I'm hoping to have the shelves done this week so I can get started. I love to organize and this is going to be a lot of fun for me actually.

I'm kinda sick that way.

(You aren't moving ME anywhere are you?)

No, not unless you have been hiding in the hall closet. If you have, then consider this your eviction notice.

Kosher kitchen... wow, I barely have enough for one tiny set of things in my kitchen, much less two sets. You'd have to stick to the extremely basics, four plates or something in order to fit two sets...

My kitchen has a total of two drawers.

It really is nice laying in a pantry. I don't have a proper pantry because my kitchen is small but we put shelving in the basement for that purpose and I keep the freezer stocked with meat. When I go to WalMart and Bob's Market it's for fresh produce to go with what I've already got put away.

    Have fun with it!

There's nothing like being organized, I say.
    Nope. Nothing like it.
    Have fun!

RYC: I'm afraid that I suffer from the hot flashes, too. That perimenopause thing coupled with having only one ovary. Sucks to be us.

I guess this means we take our own tropical vacations, yes?

The dessert was fantastic! I wish I could've sent you some, but it was gobbled up too quickly!
