Recently, S. invited me to go to a small craft fair. We needed to get the heck out of the house. Being forced indoors by winter weather in March carries more than a little sting to it. I was planting peas only a few weeks ago!
Anyway, we got there and wandered around the hall, looking at a real potpourri of items. On one table I spied something that captured my attention because it looked vaguely familiar. The closer I got, the more it confirmed my suspicions. I told the lady in the booth that I was pretty sure I had two things in my house that matched her little lidded pot. Interestingly enough, it had a sticker on it that said 'FREE'.
I must have looked confused so she opened the top and showed me that it contained a candle which she had obviously burned several times. In her world, this made the object 'used' and since it was a gift, didn't feel like she could charge for it.
I like people who have such a finely tuned moral compass.... :-)
Though it felt a little funny hauling off such a little treasure with not a penny changing hands. She was so happy to know that I liked it, and so happy to have the [to her] ethical dilemma removed from her possession, that in the end I felt like I had done HER a favor! How cool is that?
Anyway, I brought it home and went straight to my work table to retrieve one of the little cups I had been using for my watercolor water. And by golly... these things know each other.
Long lost siblings...
It's a family reunion!
I bought the two little custard cups here in town at the second hand store I'm pretty sure.
I don't know exactly what I will do with the lidded pot after I remove the candle. But I think I would like to see it every day. It will remind me of small miracles that are happening all the time in life. Some we notice. Some we don't.
And now that it is here on the blog, this little miracle has been well and truly noticed.
:-)
