Work And Its Reward
Mon Sep 07 2015

Since the two hens have vacated the premises, I've been working in the chicken run and coop in what can only be described as obsessive compulsive behavior. Yesterday was the run, today the coop. I've also been working on little piddly projects that I have been putting off even though they have been bugging the daylights out of me. Like the wobbly step into the chicken coop, and the loose gate into Sunny's pen. Today I just decided to tackle every annoying dysfunction I ran across. Well, that my friends is a dangerous occupation. I started my day around eight this morning, and didn't stop until around one or so. But to top off all that frenzied activity, I got a surprise reward. When I came in for a break at one point, I was checking my computer and found an ad on Facebook that someone had JUST put on there 5 minutes before. They were selling a picnic table for 25 dollars. When I saw the picture, I could hardly believe it. I ran it by Mr. P who said that was fine by him, and I made the call. N. [who has a pickup... the most essential vehicle for country life] and I drove out and picked it up. Turns out the man had made the table himself with lumber from trees that grew on his property. How cool is that?? Here it is in its new home: DSCN7329 I sat at it and admired all my work for a while. I planted another 'wheat field' in the run. I'm hoping that it will have plenty of time to sprout and grow up a bit before the frost slows it down. The hens would LOVE to get in there and find the wheat berries before they ever get a chance to sprout. They WILL stick their heads in as far as they can reach once the wheat starts to come up. They are very persistant. DSCN7331 Anyway, I'm very happy to have a nice table to sit at and watch the chickens, who by the way seem to be much more relaxed now that their numbers have decreased. Everyone who was so inclined today got to lay their egg in peace and tranquility. For some reason, even on this pleasant indian summer day, I've been imagining what this table will look like covered in snow. DSCN7333 I hope I get to find out.     lime-wild
