Today I am surrounded by the fruits of my labor.
It started with this..
Three kinds of basil.
I toasted some almonds, because I didn't have pine nuts, and made pesto with this. Most of the batch is in the freezer in an ice cube tray, but just enough to spread on homemade pizza dough, is waiting patiently in a little bowl in the fridge. I have decided that pesto is just about the most amazing concoction on the planet. Who was the genius who came up with it?
I gathered the first picking of green beans from S.'s garden, since I am caretaker there for a few more days, and have harvesting rights during my tenure.
I added a few from my own vines. Here they are...
They are cooking on the stove right now, making the house smell well and truly of summer.
I also had crookneck...
I'm going to make a pesto, crookneck, tomato pizza after a little while. I will TRY to take a picture of it before I dive in.
I realize this is turning into a foodie blog lately.
But frankly, there's just a lot of wonderful food hanging around in my kitchen these days!
I am reveling in it.
And feeling very grateful to have a garden of my own.
