No Guts, No Glory

Remember not long ago I was yammering about attempting to knit this?....
Crazy Sock
Well, I decided to do a practice sock in scrap yarn to take the pressure off. I am just at the point where I have finished the heel flap and am about to attempt the mysterious "turn the heel" maneuver. Which I am told involves only working part way across the row and then turning the work and working only part way across again and again until something mysterious happens. I did get a tip from a knitter at a yarn shop I visited recently. She said before I begin the mysterious maneuver, I should draw a piece of yarn through this row of stitches that she calls a 'life line'. This is used in case you fail to negotiate the mysterious maneuver and can just rip it back to that spot easily and start over.
Anyway, here I am, on the brink of success or disaster:

Wish me luck!
P.S. By the way this sock, should I succeed in making it, would only fit a 9 year old I figure. Thus letting me know, I am a tight knitter and will need larger needles for my real sock, should I choose to knit it. Those knitters aren't kidding about that 'guage' thing they keep warning me about.

I love lifelines - should you ever tackle lacework you're going to love using them too. Hadn't thought about doing them with socks however I have heard tale upon tale of the joys of setting heels. ;o) Go for it! And spare no detail, okay? lol

If you don't know of any nine year old who can wear only one sock you could use it as a Hanukkah stocking? Oh, well! I tried.
Love it....Take care, Parett
