There is a white oak that grows right next to my house. There is a large branch of it that overhangs the roof, which is usually okay. But the woodpeckers have chosen to make nests in it for several years, hollowing out one specific area. Last year, a small portion of it fell right in front of my porch. Mr. P had to saw it up it was that big. Anyway, it was worrisome to have that large limb literally looming over me every time I walked out the door. I stopped sitting on the porch or hanging out anywhere near the porch for very long. It was always on my mind I have to tell you.
Today our neighbor who does tree trimming and removal for a living, came over with his amazing equipment and a helper and took that limb off bit by bit. It was amazing to watch. They tied sections of it and with block and tackle, after cutting them, lowered them to the ground. It was very exciting to watch!
They loaded those sections into Mr. P's truck and he took them over in the field to dry out some, then he will make firewood out of them. Very coveted oak for the cold winter!
I am so grateful to them for doing this! They have amazing skill and strength, both of them.
Now I can sit peacefully on my front porch without worrying about that limb deciding to give way.
It's a happy day here on the homestead!
