After the rigors of Yom Kippur, a Jew needs a little reviving.
A little nosh, a little simcha, a little camping out.
A little remembering the temporary nature of life...
[We can't get away from a lesson so easy....]
You can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukkah
A sukkah is supposed to be a temporary structure, ours is particularly fragile. A good stiff wind, and we are in trouble.
But I like it.
The parachute is a personal touch from Hub Man. He took the day off, so was available for sukkah building. It would have been a lot harder without him.
