Short Note
Wed Aug 25 2004

I’m up to my eyeballs in dirty laundry this morning. I’m working my way through the pile and at the same time cleaning out the science experiments from the refrigerator. The only scary one was the ancient rice pudding that got squeezed into the nether regions of the top shelf, where it started on the road to world domination by mold proliferation. You can sleep safe in your beds tonight, because I dispatched it summarily.

I went out into the backyard to water the tomatoes, and I found a morning glory vine that has embarked upon its own version of taking over the world while I wasn’t looking. Now I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time pulling up a morning glory plant.
I can imagine a world covered with deep purple flowers and heart shaped leaves. Sounds rather pleasant don’t you think? They are safe for the time being, but just wait till Hub Man gets the mower out. He takes no prisoners. Purple flowers or no.

From my hard copy journal, I now will list for you my new computer resolutions, cooked up while away from the internet last week. We shall see how well I manage to follow my own rules.

# 1
Disable the automatic function on Outlook that checks for email every 3 minutes. Disable the sound file that accompanies it.
(It’s too much fun)

#2
I am NOT going to turn the computer on first thing in the morning.
I am going to start my day in other more meditative or productive ways.

#3
After I submit a weblog review, I will wait at least 4 hours before checking back to see it has been posted. Then I’ll wait at least another 4 to see if there has been a reaction to said review.
#4
I’m not going to make up any more rules right now, because I’m afraid I might violate them. I need time to think about this stuff some more.

More computer use musings to follow…..

Have you given any thought to IMing during all that time saved by not looking up weblogs, and not checking for email?

    Glad to have you back.

So now your right index finger is going to get more exercise by clicking send/receive button every 3 minutes instead? LOL

    Good luck!

I'm bad about turning the computer on first thing too. I should do my household stuff first, but I'm so used to useing the computer time to wake up in the morning that it doesn't make sense any other way. Inspire me!

I always find it easier to implement change in small steps; get one thing firmly in place before adding a second. If I try to change too much too fast I fail every time, but with small steps I get to feel very smug when I pull it off and that gives me confidence to take the next step. It is a strategy that has worked well for me time and again.

Perhaps I should apply it to the science experiments in my frig. Now there's a thought! :)

I use my computer first thing in the morning to help me wake up. It is easier to sift through e-mail in a daze than it is to do homework or laundry (and Hubby now has pink underwear to attest to that last bit).

I think your rules so far are probably enough for now. You don't want to go ahead and load yourself up with a difficult bunch of rules. What's that catch phrase? K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Well, in your case, Sweetie. ;-)

you don't need rules, you just need to go back to dial up....
