I have embarked upon the high seas of knitting

From the doldrums to obsession.

Yeah, now that you mention it. It does sound a little unbalanced.

But that's because you have never turned a heel and picked up and worked a gusset in a sock.

It's a marvel of knitting construction that I still do not fully understand, but nevertheless can produce. Oh I work the stitches and turn the heel, but I'm still a little hazy on WHY the heel, you know.... turns.

I just love everything about it. Though I do admit it can intimidate. I've decided doing it over and over is the antidote to fear.

I'm going to make the third pair to show the entire spectrum of possibilities... save one that is mostly black.
We aren't going to count the black. It's the constant contrast color, that's it. 

(Oh dear. I can just HEAR the wheels turning in her little scientific brain, feeling that for a control, she must produce the black version too.)

No, I can't, because if we go down that road, then the checks would be interchangeable with the other three colors and that would make add four more variations... or is is eight? No, I'm not doing that. I don't have to prove EVERYTHING. ./.

(Okay, okay. You don't have to get cranky about it.) ((But I KNOW it's bothering her, deep down she thinks she is cheating.))

Socks are fine.
Socks are practical.
But the toilet.
It needs cleaning.
Desperately.
Can't we take care
of that first?
And admire the socks later?
