This morning, I had to take myself by the scruff of the neck and march myself around the homestead pointing myself in the many directions of things that needed my attention.
(In all my years of reading, I think perhaps that is THE most awkward sentence I have ever encountered. Congratulations. You have achieved a new level of absurdity.)
Why thank you!
I live to please.
Anyway, I sat down with my mug of tea and bowl of granola this morning and made a gargantuan to-do list.
I've been plugging away at it since then.
I just finished raking all the oak leaves that had blown up against the chicken fencing that were smothering the iris, lavender, and spearmint that are trying to grow there. I hauled four cart loads of leaves to the burn pile. I am in here recovering from all that outdoor exertion with a red face, covered in perspiration, gulping cold water in between sentences. I don't have my summer stamina quite yet. Whew!
I then tackled the chicken coop and brought up some more straw to put inside and washed out their watering bucket. I put fresh water in it with a little bit of vinegar, which is supposed to be good for them. They have been squabbling over the thing ever since. I guess they like the taste of it. Chickens actually drink quite a lot of water.
There was something waiting for me in the nest box when I started my cleaning. It has finally happened...
All six chickens are laying!
The wooden egg must feel so special!
I'm going to celebrate by making baked custard today. YUM!

One of the reasons I could tear myself away from the loom today is that I am basking in the glow of a particularly satisfying project that I just finished.
I decided to try something. I didn't have a pattern or directions, I just decided to wing it... and I made this ....
It turned out even better than what I had in my imagination! I just love it!
Though, once my chores for the day are finished, I already have something to work on when the sun goes down. :-)
Oh, and one last little oddment for the day...
Not long ago I went to a consignment shop over the hill to buy some wool wash that she carries. I wandered around her shop looking at all manner of beautiful handmade things from local artists. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am the polar opposite of an impulse buyer. I usually know to within a gnats eyelash what I'm looking for when I go into a store and I snag it and get the heck out. As a matter of fact, I was in a second hand store the other day and the owner said to me..."You look like you're on a mission." And I was... looking for a blouse. Nothing else! :-)
SO. When I find myself spying something from across the room, making a bee line to it and practically running to the cash register, you can rest assured I am as shocked as anyone.
But what would YOU do if you saw this little wonder?
A hand carved wooden spoon. Made out of madrone. It's a thing of consummate beauty and function.
I ate my lunch with it today.
It cost a pretty penny. But was worth every one of them in my book.
I've never enjoyed going against my nature more. :-)
Okay enough already. What a mishmash of topics today!
I guess that's what happens when I've spent too many days weaving, and not enough days blogging!
