So let me get this straight.

The Pope makes a speech wherin he quotes and musty dusty old opinion that some of Islam's tenets did not perhaps come out of the top drawer of humanity's great ideas.

For this he should die????

For this a nun should be murdered, just because some 'righteously outraged' muslims didn't have the Pope handy to take out their rage upon?

You know, Hitler was a rank amateur compared to these nut jobs.

Only thing is, while we let them rage and rant and let the rhetoric escalate, we are only saying that we haven't had enough already. So it will continue. If you think we can make nice with this kind of madness, let me tell you a story boys and girls.

There was this guy, his name was Neville Chamberlain ....

Well while I agree that it is an extreme point of view to want to or actually kill people because of statements they make... I don't understand why the Pope apologised. Sheesh, wot? He had NO idea that those words he used would not elicit such a reaction? He can't just make a disclaimer that they are someone else's words - he chose to use them without any disclaimer, so they can reasonably be taken to be his belief.

So yeah, I get your point on appeasement. I just don't understand why someone would stir the pot and then appease after it begins to steam...

None of that is to absolve people who are being so extreme about their religion. I just think if the Pope is going to make such a statement he should surely have realised the implications and made the statement only WHEN he was willing to stand behind them.

In some ways I think it is a moot point anyhow. I question pretty much everything about everything (lol) and have been accused of being anti-whatever by most groups of people as a result. I'd just prefer they labelled me, not killed me.

I've had enough. More than enough. How come the powers that be don't agree? Their heads are too far up their butts, that's why. Sorry. I get a little riled when this subject comes up.
    Peace

And to top it all off there was Iran's version of Hitler giving his speech to the UN today. I could not find the text, but I heard the translation when he started his speech. It was veiled and I can't remember the exact wording, but he started by praising the actions of those who were fighting in many countries around the world. It was very clear that it was a reference to terrorists.

It sickens me that he was allowed to set foot in this country.

I have a blog entry of my own brewing around in my head about this.

    1) I just don't get the Pope. I have to preface this with the fact that I've only heard the sound bites, so I don't know if it's explained when you hear the speech in it's entirety, but why use a quote to illustrate your point, if you don't agree with the quote? Sounds like double speak to me. Had he used the quote and stood by it, and spoke out against the evil, I would be singing his praises.

    2) I'm sick of these bullies. They terrorize people and make no apologies for it, but how dare anyone critisize them for it? What they are doing is wrong. If they use their religion as a reason to condone their behavior, then we have the right to analyze and critisize the tenets of their religion.
