Looking For Calmer Waters
Fri Mar 10 2006

I sit here watching the cursor blink accusingly between the >< symbols in the html code. I wonder what, if anything I can write today that has any coherant thread of thought.

One could always revert to poetry on such occasions. The dance of a thousand veils. I have only written three of those in the last two years I reckon. They used to be my bread and butter in the creative writing arena. I haven't even copied them down in digital form. They have been languishing in two different journals, neglected and unread. I may have to do something about that today.

Gather all my bits of words into one place, and save them for a rainy day.

Hmmmm. The weather report says today is a 100% chance of thunderstorms.

I better get busy.

I have been thinking on and off for the last week or so of a song I used to hear on Captain Kangaroo, which if you don't know, was a children's tv program. I loved the Captain. He was wonderful. Captain Kangaroo

Anyway the song was.... Would You Like To Swing On A Star?

The words are even quirkier than I remembered.

***

Funny, I used to be able to string a lot more thoughts together on one subject. But it seems these days that too many things are thrown at us too fast for us to think deeply.
It is not a good place to be psychologically speaking. I am thinking that I need to do something drastic about that. It's sort of like a person who has been at sea too long. I need to stand on some solid ground and get my bearings. But I have heard that the transition from sea to land is not an easy one either. Even the land seems like the sea for some time. So it is with trepidation that I contemplate my next move.

For the time being.... all I can say is....

Land Ho!

I know exactly what you mean. So often the very thing that seemed so relevant in the morning is old news and insignificant by the time I sit down to the computer a few hours later. It kind of makes your head spin doesn't it?

I remember the Captain. But when I hear that song I think of Bing Crosby... I suppose I learned it with Captain Kangaroo though, and only hear Bing. How funny.

I thought I remembered that from Sesame Street, but now I'm wondering if it was C.K. that I heard it on way back when. Thanks for the memory!

No doubt in my mind that reading your poetry would be a pure treat. Would you post them for us?

I do remember Captain Kangaroo. My favorite part was when he made things and showed us how. I loved the sound the construction paper made as he worked with it. He had my ears in love with his show.

    Hugs,
    Ani

PS What to write on was problematic to me, too. This guy wrote on whatever he could grab--store receipts, napkins, banana peels (just kidding). I've resolved to keep paper on me. I never go anywhere without a pen, so that just one step farther. I am entranced by his method, though.
