Our Fearless Leader has upped my digital allowance.... oh thank you kind sir! I was saving the following pictures because I wanted them to show in their full glory on these pages. When I took my recent trip to see family far and wide, I took some pictures of my oldest son's Koi pond. I was astonished at the SIZE of these fish! I had never seen them up close before... DSC00632L They are very tame too!   DSC00609 DSC00624 I like this one, it looks like it has wings. DSC00618 And here's a close up ... DSC00626 There's a lot of work that goes into keeping a Koi pond. Balancing all kinds of variables according to time of year etc. I forget the exact number of fish he has, but I know it was over a dozen. When I finished taking pictures of the Koi, I spotted something I hardly ever see in my corner of the world, and decided to see if I could get a nice shot of it.... DSC00667L You would be amazed at how tempting it is to touch this plant. You KNOW you shouldn't... but you WANT to. I have no idea what theory I wanted to put to rest about its defense mechanisms, but I had to stop myself several times from giving one of those clusters an exploratory poke. I am happy to say my adult self took charge and found something else for my inner child to focus on. Little Miss Sunshine1 They are pretty!  They look like fuzzy little bugs. Let's touch them!!! See what I mean. It's a good thing that cactus is a good 1,200 miles away right now!   lime-wild
