Get In Line
Tue Jan 18 2005

Anyone read "The Time Traveler's Wife"? I was told it was quite a good book. I have requested it at the library and am 4th in line for it. Which if each person keeps it for the full 3 weeks allowed I will get it in sometime at the end of March. One can only hope that one of those people will lose interest and drop out of line in the meantime.

I also embarked on my self improvement phase in the reading department and requested Jane Eyre and some other classic that I can't remember right now. I am hoping to regain my interest in reading . . . somehow.

Oh I read lots of non-fiction stuff..... it's just the fiction I am having trouble with these days. It's very annoying. Especially for a long time reading nut, bookworm such as myself.

I'm having butterflies about the writing group tomorrow night. I have to print out a dozen copies of what I am going to share, for handouts. That in itself carries a certain terror. What will these people DO with my essay once they have looked it over? Use it to wrap fish? Make grocery lists on the back of it? Cut it in strips and use it for bookmarkers? I can't think about it too much.

Of course I didn't give it a second thought putting it out there in DearDiary cyberspace that day way back when. But there is something about words printed on paper that carries a certain immediacy. . . and I don't want to be frivolous with them!

(Boy, you worry about the stupidest stuff. Get OVER yourself already!)

That's easy for you to say. It's not your essay.

Well, I'm off to get groceries. I can't put it off another day. When you are out of milk and bread, your fate is sealed. Into the fray you must go. It wouldn't be so daunting if I knew that when I went into the grocery I thought I might see someone I actually know. But in the city that rarely happens.

(You are determined to pout today, no matter what aren't you?)

Oh shut up. [I hate it when he is right.....]

(I heard that.)

Sigh. . . .

No, I haven't read that one yet, either. Heard a lot about it, though. I'm sure you'll find yourself amongst friends tomorrow tonight. ;-)

I must confess I nearly burst out laughing when I read your comment of the fear of bringing your writing samples to the club, what with the irony of hanging all that laundry out on DD and all...

    You'll do great!

Ah, that's one of the things I love about living where I do, a small town inside a big town, I always see someone I know when I go shopping!

Just remember they are all just as nervous as you are and wondering the same things....well perhaps with the exception of what you will do with their handouts. :)

I am about halfway thru "Out of the Silent Planet". It is good and I am enjoying the read. If this is the weakest of the three then I have much to look forward to. Lewis really gets you to thinking about things you might not otherwise consider doesn't he?
