So, how cold was it last night?

Oh yeah.
That's cold.
While I was starting the fire this morning, I heard a dog barking. I thought it was Elvin, Mr. P's dog next door. But later on , I saw him running down the road with Mr. P. as they were on their way to feed J.R.
Anyway, the morning wore on and the dog, whoever he was, continued to bark on and off up on the hill across from the ice pond.
When it was almost noon, I decided to mosey down to the barn and haul up a little wood, for psychological peace of mind.
As I was stacking it in my back door woodshed, I heard the dog bark again.
Then I thought of something. Last summer, Elvin was running around in the woods at night and got himself caught in a fence by his collar. And I wondered if our mystery dog had done the same thing. I fetched Mr. P and we trudged through the snow to see if we could find the dog.
Well, we did find him at the base of an oak tree.
There was nothing wrong with him at all [except he was an annoying barker].
But I noticed that he kept looking up into the tree.
I had to walk around a little bit to see anything, and then my eyes landed on an interesting sight.

Yes, my friends, I actually remembered to take my camera with me this time. :-)
Poor Mr. Fox had been up the tree for HOURS.
We shooed the dog off. I think he was grateful that someone told him to go home. He missed his breakfast for sure, and was well on his way to missing lunch.
Though I must admit, the little rascal certainly has tenacity.
Here are some more pictures …
I told Mr. P that maybe now that Mr. Fox owes us a favor, if I ever get chickens, he will stay away from my hen house.
I wonder if he will remember?
When the time comes…..
