Slow But Sure
Fri Sep 03 2004

I finally got to work on a chapter of the novel today. It turned into quite a chore as I had to finalize some actual NAMES of people and things. With the help of a random name generator, I finally came across an odd spelling of a rather familiar name that I liked. One does not want to name a main character some awkward hard to pronounce name. With apologies to Tolkein and Elvish notwithstanding.

In any case, one more down and 20 something more to go.

Although I am fast approaching the really raw first draft pages. I think two more chapters and I am into the rough territory. I have a new strategy though. I am printing out hard copies and making written notes. It works much better than trying to work from the computer screen for long periods of time.

Paper is a lot more friendly to the eyes, and curled up in a chair is much better than sitting at this desk typing.

Hmmm. Just think if there were leather bound tablet PC's now THERE is a Luddite's worst nightmare. If there were such a creature, I would be in perpetual angst over whether or not to get one.

But thankfully, this is a problem I don't have to worry about today.

Yes, paper is more friendly. It's much easier to edit on paper. It's much easier to scribble ideas on paper.

But when push comes to shove, nothing beats the computer for collating it all.

    Write on!

    Shalom

That is how I edit papers for my daughter. Don't forget to double space so you have more room for notes and new thoughts.

There is something so satisfying about circled words, arrows pointing sentences to new locations and new thoughts written down the length of the page.

Go forth, pencil and eraser in hand (I always find I need a big Pink Pearl) and edit away. :)

Maybe you should hold a pseudo-contest in DD to come up with character names! Give a very basic description of the character, and ask for suggestions!

I'm proud of you that you're still continuing to work on your novel it takes dedication to see it through when to leave it in a drawer would be really tempting.

Love you oodles. Good luck with naming the rest of your fictional children. I for one am very anxious for my next Bogwillow fix.

    Love

Glad to hear you're doing something on the novel. For some reason we see mistakes and the reality of our writing better on paper. Interesting to know why that's the case, hey? ;-)
