I'm Just Here for the Samples
Fri May 09 2025

This has been a very busy week. I had three appointments, plus the odd two or three errands to take care of. Next week I have two more appointments and then, I hope, I hope, I can stay home and be a bit of a hermit for a while. Cultivate some mushrooms or something gnome-like, instead of being a social butterfly, which I am ill-suited for let me tell you!

This morning, I finally got my potatoes planted. This was a load off my mind. The rest of the planting is just seeds, and now that I have dug over all the beds and added the soil amendments, I am waiting maybe another week for the weather to settle into something warmer. I have carrots, basil, green beans, marigolds, dill, and zinnias left to plant.

THEN! I want to rebuild my sukkah. I'm taking it down to the bare bones. I'm looking forward to that as the reward for getting the garden all tucked in and tidy.

In the meantime, as usual, I've been playing with pens and ink. I have 22 inks now in regular rotation. Many of the samples I ordered have been used up. They really only give you about three fillings of your ink cartridge or so. But it's nice to try and ink without committing to a whole bottle! Anyway, these are my inks as of today:

I mixed some of the ink samples to make custom colors because I wasn't that fond of the sample by itself. They turned out nicely, but I'll probably never have those colors again.

I wish all inks came in this little 10ml bottle like J Herbin in the middle:

Robert Oster on the right is a 50 ml bottle! Yikes! The J Herbin on the left is 30ml, still quite a lot of ink. I love experimenting with new colors, but the samples also make me anxious if I get too many. I don't know why I'm this way. I really don't.

I'm glad Shabbat is nearly here. I need a rest! I've been directed by my oldest son to read a book called 'Wizard's First Rule' by Terry Goodkind. I'm looking forward to being tucked up with my pillows and blankie reading most of the day tomorrow and not digging trenches in the garden. 💗

Shabbat Shalom!
