Oh my friends, it's that time of year again.
I'm sure you have seen enough pictures of the ice pond to last you into the Zombie Apocalypse, but it is such a source of wonder to me that this thing appears OVERNIGHT when we get enough steady rain, I cannot find it in me to be blase' about it. EVER.
To suddenly have lakefront property will never get old for me.
Now that it's here, I am hoping anxiously that the Wood Ducks will notice and come for a visit. I love those birds. They are so colorful and elegant. If they do, perhaps this time I will be able to get a decent picture for you.
One reason the pond fills up so fast is that it receives water from two drainages.
Here's the first:

Then it is joined by one to the left which pools up in a big puddle.

Then they join and because there is not an established creek bed, the water goes where it wants to. This year it knocked over a fence.

Then it fills up the flat area above the pond and trees are now standing in water.

Finally, it fills up the pond and ends up flowing through an imperfect dam which lets water out at a pretty good rate. It has to keep raining steady to keep the pond at this high a level.

I always wish I had a little boat to float around on it. Though maybe not WHILE it's raining. I want so badly to keep this water. But alas, it is not to be. Though we WILL get to enjoy it for quite a while as if the weather people are right, it's going to rain on and off all week.
I'll have a five day temporary increase in my property values!
(In your dreams Cupcake. Your insurance will go up because you are in a flood plane.)
😒Really. That's all you can come up with?
(Just keepin' it real.)
Sigh....
