Needle Aspirations
Wed Oct 25 2006

Yesterday I got a newsletter from a local yarn shop that had a little pattern for rudimentary, beginner's 'lace'. I have heard dire warnings from some of the women at the knitting guild that if I hang around with them long enough, I will be knitting lace. It is inevitable.

Well, as I was getting really bored with a certain mind numbing other project I won't go into, I decided to take a break and give this little pattern a go.

This is what I made yesterday:

Notice the boo boo.

It is not exactly lacey, but evidently, the basi concept of lace is presented. Interesingly enough, when I started that bottom edge, it was straight. I can see how one might get enthused about this kind of knitting.

But truth to tell, I have a lot of socks to make before I am ready for knitting lace.

But there are the masters to look up to in the meantime....Yarn Harlot.

October 24,2006 entry.

So you see, I have a lot to learn. ;-)

    I tried knitting once.

Let's just say one needs a lot more patience than I've been blessed with to do that kind of thing...

I see you have been more aptly blessed than I!

You could spend the whole day and then some with the Yarn Harlot.

The boo-boo? Oh, yes, since you pointed it out.

    Shalom

Ah, the Feather & Fan! I made one! http://tinyurl.com/yxhhn6 It is lace, the yarn overs make it lace so don't kid yourself.

You're doing socks and that scares the you-know-what out of me. I don't mind, even LOVE doing lace so we're even. And once you really start it will be impossible to stop making lace, same as I understand goes for socks. It's all relative. :o)

Had the little pink arrow not been on the pic, I wouldn't have spotted your boo-boo....if you ever knit a lacy shawl thing or anything like that, please post :)

Even the fact you're knitting socks is admirable to me - I just don't have the patience :)

I think you are off to a great start.....every lace maker has to start at the beginning, learn the basics and grow....even the maker of that phenomenal shawl started where you are now and look how far she has come! That shawl is beyond beautiful.... it is indeed a piece of art. WOW!

I actually want to learn how to knit. Something to do this winter. I'm a member of a knitting yahoo group that's here in town. I'm actually going to go tonight and finally learn how to knit.

    Cheers,
    Cyndi
