Little Bits of Metal

[album 65561 GoofyHen2.JPG] This is a DISASTER!
That may be overstating the situation, but we are in a pickle here this morning.

Let me re-state that, we are up to our ears in apples.

(So what?)

I'll tell you what. Our apple peeler, corer, slicer broke. That's what.

 (Uh oh.)

One of the prongs that holds the apple in place broke off and the apple won't stay on the thingy anymore to go round and round to get its skin peeled off and its guts extruded.

And I have a bushel of apples to work up.

I'm gonna have to go to the store and get a new peeler, corer, slicer. And I was so looking forward to staying home today.

Sigh.

See that little bit of metal that looks like a nail?

Well, that is one VERY important bit.

Seems without that one long prong to hold the core in place, the entire appliance is rendered moot.

"For the want of a prong the tool was lost..."

Anybody know the rest?

Linky

Okay, maybe it's not that drastic. But still. The Hen is all upset. She's a real pest when she's upset.

(Don't I know it. We won't have a moment's peace until there's apple butter cooking in the crock pot. Get the keys. Go to the store. Quick. )

What an inopportune time for disaster! And it's such a small part of the machine to bring on the disaster!

Come to think of it, is there ever an *opportune* time for disaster?

    Bless

If I lived closer you could just borrow mine. I think it's peeled all of four apples in it's life. It sits on the shelf forlornly, waiting for a bushel of apples (that it's probably never going to get.) It even still has its replacement blade.

I've always wanted one of those machines. Mine only peels, but I guess that's better than nothing.
Hope you're back in business soon.

I LOVE your apple corer/peeler! Much sturdier than mine. We have to peel the apple first, then put it on to core and slice it. The peeler part of it does a less than satisfactory job!

    Where did you get it?

Of course there is always the time honored Luddite method where one peels and cores apples with a paring knife.

Red... I was just jokings around...... please put down that apple. Look, Y is getting the keys.

    *ducks and runs for cover*

I love mine, but we don't call it an apple corer slicer peeler, we call it an Apple Lathe! Good name? My kids love to eat the long skinny strings of apple skin that come off it, and so I indulge them in using it whenever they want. But mine has a suction bottom, to stick it to the counter or glass stove top. That probably makes it easier to do one or two apples....the clamp probably is better (stronger, more secure) when you have a bushel to do!

    Apple butter cooking smells....ummmmmm yum!
