Cool and Crisp
Mon Sep 12 2011

In a supreme act of mercy, the clouds rolled in yesterday and cooled things off around here. It’s like waking up from a drugged sleep to finally have cool air wafting into your bedroom window in the morning...my brain functions better, I see better, I’m taller, I weigh less and my skin clears up, just like that. Bam!

Yesterday we drove up to Apple Hill and brought home something for me to do.

The crock pot awaits.

I see apple butter on the horizon.

Yipee!
I want my apple butter on awfuls!

(I think you mean waffles there, don’t you squirt?)

That’s what I said.
Awfuls!
Yummy!

(Obviously, it started when she was quite young.)

What started?

(Oh nothing. Nothing at all.)

You make APPLE BUTTER?!!!!!! I am now in awe. In all honesty, it never occurred to me that it was even possible to make apple butter - I always buy from the Amish/Mennonite community around here.

A local delicacy is apple butter on cottage cheese. Looks awful (not "waffle") but is actually absolutely wonderful

It is that time of year, isn't it? I think I'll make apple pie filling this year.

I haven't canned pie filling, but I've made, and frozen peach and blackberry pie filling in the past. I need to get busy if I'm going to be able to get anything other than apples for this year! It's been a busy summer and all I've gotten done are pickles and boysenberry jam.

We cooled off here too.......I feel so much better today!

My apples are ready to pick, but I've been so buried in other produce I haven't had the time. Probably won't make apple butter, but I'd love to can some applesauce this year. Maybe after the zucchini, tomatoes, and beets there will be time. :)
