I found a bag of red potatoes out in the garage this morning. They had sprouted.
There's only one thing I know of to do with sprouted potatoes.
So I did it.

And since I was out there in the garden, I also planted four short rows of corn.
Now, you may say.... WHAT? Planting corn in March?
Well, my trepidatious friend, I actually looked up a planting guide for our area and it says right there plain as day, that you can plant corn in March. I'm thinking they are right because it was so warm out there this morning, I got overheated while working up the soil and planting.
Of course there were other problems to overcome that took just as much or more time to do.
Constructing some kind of dog barrier. Yep, it looks pretty crappy. But I think it might work.
Maybe.

I'm pretty sure my mother would call these contraptions 'jakey'.
I call them, 'making do with what you have on hand because you are way too cheap to invest in fencing and don't want to go out any way because you have seen your quota of car butts already this week and don't feel like adding one more expense to the gardening budget this year'.... genius.
(Take a breath there Cupcake.)
It's a matter of perspective.
"Will it WORK?" That's my first question when considering a course of action.
"What will it look like?" is WAY down the list of concerns.
(As we,unfortunately, can see for ourselves...)
I don't see YOU breakin' a sweat out in the garden Mr. Cranky Pants.
(Well, there's that....)
Exactly.

It looks organic.
And very green, using recycled objects.
Bravo.
And then in August, or thereabouts, you'll be enjoying the fruits of your labors today.
Bless
Love your frugal and misery streak, good on you.
I can't believe you are planting already... I am fondling my herb seed packets and will search out my planters in the back porch soon.
It seems getting zapped on the nose a dozen or so times convinced their dog to stay away from gardens period. The wire has been down for three years now and he still won't go within 5 feet of their garden.
