There’s a chill wind blowing this morning. Feels like the open door of a freezer. I’m okay with it so far. Makes me want to make a pot of soup. But I’ll have to wait. the fridge is full. Yesterday I cooked up a big batch of pink beans. I feel rich. I have dinners and lunches covered for the rest of the week.
I never used to appreciate beans when I was a kid. I thought them very underwhelming things to eat. But at some point I did a 180 on it and discovered the comforting simplicity of the little orbs.
I like mine plain jane most of the time. Beans, onions, salt. Maybe a little mesquite seasoning or a bay leaf thrown in as I did yesterday. All you need for a complete meal is some cornbread, but I was too lazy for cornbread baking yesterday. I had used up all my extra energies on something else.
I have been on a knitting jag.
A bag jag.
It’s particularly intense right now for reasons I don’t care to delve into. I just wanna make ‘em. All bags all the time.
I bought some handspun yarn from a shop up north during my last visit. Jacob’s wool to be exact. I made a bag and decided to embellish it with some needle felting, so I did this.....

Then I had a better idea and was all bummed out about putting that other design on it. In a slap forehead moment yesterday, I realized the bag has TWO sides to it.
(Oh god, I can’t take it....)
I know, sometimes I’m a little thick headed.
(A LITTLE????)
Well, I DID finally figure it out. You have to give me credit for that.
(Very well. Your head is freakishly thick, but it DOES have its limits.)
Thanks... I think.
So here’s what I did with the other side.

Looks vaguely familiar eh?
I also made this little tiny one.

And there is another one of the same yarn, different colors drying on the clothes line right now. Well, more precisely freezing it’s little felted fibers off, but the sun IS going to shine on it, as soon as it gets above the rooftops. You see I’ve been up since 4:30 am. . .
Don’t ask.
(What is WRONG with you???)
I said don’t ask.
When the rest of the world wakes up and gets things going, I’m going to drive down the road a ways to attend the grand opening of a Whole Foods Market. It’s in a more easily accessible place than the one we usually go to and I’m jazzed about it.
Though my food budget won’t be at all amused.
But they have exotic honey, vegetarian sausages, organic milk in glass bottles, my favorite kefir, and Hub Man’s latest obsession, aged gouda.
I’ll have to compromise in other areas to make up for my trip to Whole Foods today.
It’s a good thing I like beans.
