Yesterday morning, I was outside wandering in the yard and garden bemoaning the crispy and distressed state of the grass, flowers, and general vegetation in the last days of August. It was depressing.
I wasn't too impressed with the weather forecast, the usual non-committal percentages of chance of rain etc. I SHOULD have been impressed... because at around six o'clock in the evening, I heard big thunders to the north of us. Within a half an hour the lightning was hitting VERY close and the heavens opened... let me tell you.
For some really weird reason, as the first plops rain started to fall, I decided to go out to Hen's Rest and clean house. I started vacuuming the little space and wiping down some cobwebs, just then the first REAL lightning bolt hit somewhere VERY close by! Yikes! And when the rain started falling hard, I had to sit down in the chair and cover my ears it was so loud on the uninsulated tin roof! It was scary out there!
When all was said and done, we got an inch of rain! It was glorious!
Now I won't have to water for several days. That's all I have been doing lately to keep things from dying outright... Sigh.
This morning it was actually foggy. The air is still very humid and the promised high temperatures have fled to other locations thank goodness. As a matter of fact, the air feels like it's healthful to breath. Very invigorating.
Thank God for nourishing rain. There's nothing quite like it.
I celebrated by making a little Fall painting, to encourage the season changing trend.
