Sir Isaac and the Crabapple Tree

The other day, in an effort to get to know Sir Isaac better, I took a little toodle on some back roads where I could practice some hard stops, and steering maneuvers that would be alarming in traffic. 😊

Along one of these roads, I turned up a gulch that my dad used to take my brother and I to learn how to drive. I hadn't been up there for years. Most of it is paved now, where it used to be gravel. Though it is still a very narrow road. It was a beautiful day. It affords a view of the valley that I don't often see. I had to stop and take a picture of it.

As I drove back down to the main road, I spied a tree loaded with apples growing right alongside the pavement. I got out to pick up several of them. They were not like regular crabapples. I was amazed at their size. When I got home, I looked it up, and there ARE large varieties. I found them enchanting to tell you the truth. They are about the size of a golf ball but have a true apple shape.

They taste delicious, if a bit on the tart side. I'd love to have a tree like this in my yard.

I should have taken a picture of the tree, but I completely got caught up in picking them. Though it was a kind of mess. It wanted pruning, and there were hundreds of fallen apples all around it, I'm sure it would have enjoyed a deep watering poor thing. I wish I could just have brought it home with me.

It's a good thing puppies don't grow on trees, otherwise I would be shopping for dog treats right now. 🙄🤣
