I don't have anything much amusing to say today, although I fervently wish I did. This entry is "the other side of the coin"
I was visiting a dear friend who is in the hospital fighting bone cancer. And on the same day, we went to a memorial service for my former father-in-law.
And to accomplish this we drove over 600 miles in one day.
I don't think I have ever lived through such a marathon day ever. One began to have sympathy for jet setters. I think maybe that life is not all it's cracked up to be.
The "other side of the coin" is the flip side of being a human being. We go along at a pretty good clip never consciously thinking that we are going to live forever. But death doesn't show up on the radar screen very much either.
We are just in denial every where you look. Well, my munchkins, we are mortal. Food for worms boys and girls. We come with an expiration date that only God knows. But if there is ONE thing I am sure of in this interesting situation we find ourselves, it's that we have a soul and that soul lives on. So while we may question and whine and rail at the Creator sometimes for the way He has arranged things, we must keep in mind that we draw breath because He wills it also. Are we as diligent to THANK Him for life as we are to rail at Him about death ? We are not in possesion of "the big picture" and therefore do not know what is good or bad for us or anyone else at any given time.
My friend D. told me a story today that seems to go here, even though I said I don't have anything humorous to say, looks like this is my coping mechanism for this situation. So here goes.
She had taken her little daughter to a theme park and spent a lot of money to get in. Just as they were entering a petting zoo, some ducks flew over them and pooped on them both, now I'm talking big time poop... They ran to the nearest bathroom and cleaned up as best as they could, but had a rather "stinky" day at the park. An employee had seen what had happened but lost track of them in the crowd. Thankfully he saw them later as they were leaving. He was SO upset for them that he saw to it that they got a full year family pass to the park !
So I told her, those were the ducks that laid the golden pass !
There you have it. Sometimes what looks like a really shitty deal, turns out to be a blessing in disguise. We just don't know all the details until later on.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-)
If this entry sounds a bit psychotic or incoherant in any way, you may put it down to emotional and physical meltdown.
