Bloom Where You Are Planted
Mon Mar 22 2004

It might as well be summer.

I have to REMIND myself it is only March and not panic because all my tomato plants are not in yet. I worked in the yard today and finished up with the last of the weeding. I emptied out all my flower seed packets into a little bowl and went out there and scattered seed all along the last beds. I sprinkled potting soil, left over from last year on top of the seed and watered. Now I wait. I have friends who are amazed that I grow flowers from seed. There is no big secret about it. You just make sure you have nice worked up soil and then you plant about 5 times as many seeds as number of flowers you want and then keep them moist and be patient.

Hub Man hauled out the last bale of peat moss for me and I mulched the potato plants with most of it. The remainder went under the tangerine tree. It is getting ready to bloom. I don't know if it will set any fruit this year or not. Last year it bloomed like a trooper, but didn't put on one tangerine.

And lo and behold, our Fugi apple tree is blooming. Even the blackberries are beginning to bloom. It's a bloomin' frenzy out there.

It may sound like we have a really big yard, when in fact it is quite small. We have just crammed a lot of stuff into it! I'm working on a roll of film with the Konica 35 mm so as to have some REAL pictures someday soon. Still have a few shots left.

But now I am grubby and overwarm and need a good scrub.

So off to the tub.

RYC: My mirror shows much more muffin than stud, but I realize that my face is a result of genetics and my body is a result of not exercising enough, so I can't really complain about it, can I? ;)

We drove up into the Blue Ridge mountains today, and I was struck by many of the older homes with the BIG old fruit trees on them. I'm not sure what they were exactly, but my goodness you could tell they had been there for quite a long time. One in particular may have been a weeping cherry (do they make such a thing?). It looked like a cherry tree, but had weeping willow tendancies, and this thing was blooming from head to toe and HUGE! I think people who are blessed to have trees and gardens like that should not mind if someone wants to come up and ask a question or three. I'm never brave enough to go and ask, so I'll never know what kind of tree that was.
