Months ago, I decided I wanted to get a passport. I have some friends who are working on moving to Israel, and I want to be able to go visit one day.
I downloaded the paperwork and spent one whole morning finding the information I needed and filling them out. Like I said, months ago.
That chore was on my kanban board all that time, sticking its tongue out at me every time I opened the fridge.
(Bet that got old.)
You better believe it.
Anyway, I finally made an appointment at the post office over at the County seat. They process the applications there and take your picture and everything. I didn't know they did that. I thought I had to take it to the Recorder's office at the courthouse.
So today I went over there and handed the man my papers and 15 minutes I kid you not, I was walking out... photo and all.
I felt a little shell shocked to tell you the truth. If I had known it would be THAT easy, I would have done it all those months ago!
You know, it feels pretty weird though to hand over your only certified birth certificate to be shuffled off into some government office, God knows where. It felt a little sketchy, I won't lie.
This of course makes me all philosophical about procrastination and the price we pay for it. But I won't go on and on about it. I'm sure we are all familiar with putting things off.
And while I was on such a roll, I took myself down the road in that same town and ordered a new pair of glasses from the eye center. The ones I have are too heavy and don't fit me well. I decided I had had enough. That was ALSO on my kanban board. Now the entire TO DO column is empty.
It's a good feeling. And I am resisting the temptation to start a whole new list. At least for a few days. I want to bask in the glow of missions accomplished.
It doesn't happen often.
I'm savoring it.
