The Garden at Summer Solstice 2013

I've had a busy week.
In the best way possible.
I did spring cleaning in the house, including actually washing my windows outside. I've decided having clean windows is essential to one's mental health. I put off that job for weeks and weeks. It was silly. I won't do it again.
Getting all caught up in the house gave me permission to do some of the garden chores that were getting out of hand. I worked out there for an hour and a half and whipped things into pretty good shape.
I pulled up all the old pea plants… here's what was left on the vines...
I\
I see dinner.
Then I planted pea seeds that I had been soaking since this morning. I figure I'll just see how they do. We are having such an odd summer weatherwise, that they might flourish. I would like more peas in the freezer.
Here is a close up of part of the new row.
One of the tomato plants is blooming. The rest of them however, are taking their time.
They look VERY healthy though, which is encouraging.
Here are two views of the rest of things...
That bare spot will be home to some kale or other seeds I intent to put in as fall crops. I'm going to pull back the mulch and create a seedbed there in the next few days.
I also finished placing mulch on all the bare dirt. I'm liking the weed suppression it provides, but I'm wondering what it's going to be like in the fall. I don't know if I will leave it to overwinter or pick it up to compost so I can till. I will be pondering that the rest of the summer!
And here is Sunny, supervising the entire operation.
There's still some detail weeding to do, but the hard work is over.
(Yeah, right.)

Godd job! Bravo!
As soon as I'm feeling better I will be getting caught up, too.
I'm coming garden! Really I am.

looking good! But you need more sun on those tomatoes, for sure! We are up in the mountains (back and forth all the time) & the weather is cool (enough for lots of blankets) and going to get cooler in the next few days! Which means you'll be cool, too :) But we have to go home, so back to regular Sac weather.
Was thinking about you today as we were walking up in high Sierra lake country: are you going to get chickens soon? :)))

Chickens?
Really?!

I too noticed the shade, but it is perfect for the little table in the corner. That it where I would sit to supervise...
