Didn't Pass Muster

Well, I was summarily shown the door first thing this morning in the courtroom. I and about a dozen others must have written something on the questionnaires that the lawyers found objectionable, the judge thanked us for our service and out we went like yesterday’s newspaper. It was all I could do not to skip out the door and down the hall. But there was a throng of other jurors waiting to go in and it just didn’t seem right to rub it in that I was going home. So I tried really hard for a chagrined look, which hopefully I pulled off and then skipped up the stairs to get released and for my light rail pass. I was home by 10:30 in the morning.

I have been paying bills up until a little while ago. What a gruesome job.
There were about 7 of them in all. The mailman came just a little while ago and whisked them away. But I have a feeling there will be one or two more to deal with now that he has delivered the mail.

Years ago I used to love to go get the mail. I had pen pals and got interesting newsletters from interesting organizations and I got lecture tapes on loan, and magazines. But now I don’t like to go out there. It’s usually just bills and that is depressing.

Although several weeks ago we went on line and ordered a BUNCH of free catalogs from all kinds of companies. Harry and David (fruits and nuts) Vermont Country Store, Coldwater Creek, (clothing I can’t afford, but like to look at), LL Bean, etc. It was fun, and they have been coming in a steady stream. That does make the mail a little more interesting.

Now all my good news comes on the computer. Notification of diaries that have been updated, reader comments, email from friends and family…. And oh yeah, a little spam just for fun. It has trickled down to 2 or 3 a day now. I can live with that. For a while it was 5 or 6.

(No I do NOT have a male appendage and if I did I would try to be satisfied with what God had given me, thank you very much!)

Well, I have to go work on my story. I added 900 words just now but I need to make it to 12,500 by the end of this week if I want to stay on track. Right now I have 8,012. So there’s work to be done!

HOORAY!! Now you can spend your time working on your story.

You like to get magazines? Well, c'mon over. I load you down, and you don't even have to subscribe.

Sound like your writing is going well. Congratulations!

My main problem has been getting computer time. My husband and I sometimes fight over the computer -- he wants to play Everquest and I want to write! LOL I've tried writing with paper and pen, but I've found that, for some reason, the words just don't come as easily. Oh, well. Here's hoping that we'll both get lots of words down tonight!

RE: jury selection: If you were dismissed so quickly, it's more likely that you were excused because of your race, your age, your occupation, or because you don't have a male appendage. Lawyers "shape" a jury to affect the outcome of the trial, so don't feel like anyone judged you on anything actually important. ;)

Don't forget the free gardening catalogs. Even if you don't garden they are lovely to look at.

I know what you mean!! You are fortunate to only have been receiving about 5-6 a day. I have to get at least 15-20. I guess I belong to too many email lists ;)

I know exactly what you mean, if I were a man I'd be really insecure with all the spam. I used to think that letters were fun when I was smaller until I grew up and realised that they were usually just bills.

Keep Writing! You're nearly there!
