I have been told by the Watercolor Powers That Be... okay, watercolor bloggers and teachers, that I needed to get myself some quality watercolor paper. That this would shorten my learning curve considerably. And boy do I need my learning curve shortened. I started at less than zero, since am learning on my own.
So I hied me off to the art store today and went all the way to the back of the store where they keep the good stuff. Away from the riff raff who frequent the regular isles wandering around with the glazed over newbie stares.
(That was you a month ago. Don’t lie.)
Okay, that was me a month ago.
Satisfied?
(For now.)
After I picked myself off the floor at getting a good look at the price of a sheet of 300 lb. paper, I tenderly teased out some 140 lb. stuff instead and carried it up to the front like I knew what I was doing.
(Ha!)
I got one sheet of hot press, which is very smooth, and one of cold press rough paper to practice with.
Here it is....

I am completely intimidated by its magnificence.
To lessen this effect, I am about to cut them down into to sizes that don’t make me break out in a cold sweat.
I don’t think one can do proper watercolor practice in a cold sweat.
After all, it’s called cold PRESSED, not cold sweat paper.
(Your proclivity for sloppy metaphors is starting to get on my nerves.)
You have too many nerves.

In other amusing turns of events... I mentioned to a friend last night on the phone that I intened to take today off. I was going to declare myself a holiday.
Happily that didn’t happen because Hub Man took the day off unexpectedly. He helped me dismantle the bedroom and we did a furniture moving, curtain washing, mattress turning, dust bunny erradicating blitz on the unsuspecting room. It didn’t even get a blitz notice. We just commenced, and caught all the dirt by surprise.
The room looks completely different and is so spic and span, a certain Hen just keeps strutting around in there running her flight feathers over the flat surfaces, and admiring the high level of orderliness.
Though I can’t do it as often as I used to, ‘The Blitz’ is still my method of choice in housekeeping. There’s something so cathartic about it. But at this point in my life, I usually require extra muscles to get the job done.
Lucky for me, I have said muscles available.... from time to time.
But muscles aren’t going to help me with wielding the scissors on that watercolor paper.
My knees are weak just thinking about it.
(The only weak thing you need to worry about is that gray stuff inside your skull.)
Sigh.
