Quiet
Wed Aug 23 2006

It's been a quiet day at DD, or else my notifies aren't working, one or the other.

I ventured forth today to get groceries. I'm a little appalled at how much things are costing these days. I found myself shying away from certain products. There are foodstuffs that I am just baffled how they can justify the price they are asking. Somebody is getting rich, and it's not me, that's all I have to say about it.

I actually did buy some dry beans and rice. 78 cents for a pound of beans. Now THAT'S a bargain.

Even though it is officially still summer, there is something in the air that tells me fall is coming. And today the sky was streaked with mare's tails, a sure sign of change. The shift in the atmosphere makes me want to bake bread, and big pots of soup.

I was daydreaming about homemade bread with lots of butter on it yesterday. I may have to kick on the oven and get busy.

The gas companies are the ones getting rich. I think with diesel being the highest price, it costs more to truck our food. Someone needs to get a grip.

Now that raising the minimum wage is a done deal, prices are only going to get worse. Our current rate of inflation is the same as when Nixon ordered the price freezes back in the 70s. But nobody is saving us now, are they?

As for not getting notified, nope, you aren't.

I just finished watching 'The Barefoot contessa' make beef stew. After that and reading your diary I am definitely looking forward to fall and cool cooking weather.

    Bon Appetit!!!(sp)? Parett
