Block Party
Sun Sep 07 2003

Tonight we had our annual block party.

It was a pretty good turnout. About half the people invited came.

The kids played basketball just down the street and our Robbie came out to visit everyone. He was unusually friendly and curious about all the people in the street. He used to be more afraid of little kids, but for some reason tonight he wanted to see what was going on out there.

We had barbecues out and everyone brought something to share. It was fun, if a little cool. The weather decided to cool off today. Next year we think we will have it on the 4th of July or sometime more in the summer months.

It was all very casual and no big fuss. I like that. I am not fond of over planning something. It felt like what it was an easy picnic in the street chatting with all our neighbors that we usually only see for a few minutes now and then.

Anyway, I am ready for bed. Long day.

It reminds me of the street I grew up on in Sausalito....everyone had lived there for so many years we were all friends and enjoyed each other on a day to day basis. On cool, summer evenings the adults would get a bar-b-que started just so we could roast marshmallows and all the kids would play hide-n-seek by the full moon. I can get sooo nostalgiac it brings tears to my eyes. I like this time of my life but I sure miss my old friends and the times we shared. Thank you Y. for anther opportunity for nostalgia. See you soon, I hope.

Street party sounds like fun. Yeah, even more rain today, but it still probably won't be enough to get the dam to the level we want. ;-)

block party, sounds like a heap of fun!
haven't had one of those yet, apparently the people who used to own my house were the ones responsible for getting everybody together but i'm not too keen on following in their foosteps ;)
