Sheltie Picnic
Mon Jul 20 2009

This weekend, we packed up Ben and Scotty and went to the Sheltie Picnic.

We left Sunny at home this time. We didn't think we could handle three dogs in the back seat of the car for one thing. And Sunny is SO exuberant at these kinds of events that we just decided she could have some alone time this year. I don't think she is holding it against us either. As long as she gets to sleep here in the computer room while I'm in here ... well, she seems content.

Anyway, we had the picnic at a dog agility facility north of the city. It was ..... um.... HOT.
We were all walking around with red faces and soda cans and water bottles.

We handed Scotty off to his owner who had come to the picnic too. She is better. Scotty was happy to see her. He sat under her chair the whole time. They make a good pair.

Anyway, there was an enclosure for the dogs to do some running around....

Notice Ben in the foreground. I was quite surprised to find him intimidated by the exuberance of some of the other Shelties. Because when he is at the school playground with Sunny, he runs himself silly and barks and runs at anything that dares to come near the fence. Mr. Macho Man. But at the picnic?  Well, he turned into mild mannered Benjie Kent.

Weird.

After short runs, everyone came into the shade to exchange odors.

Did I mention it was hot?

There was a young girl there who had trained her Sheltie to do all kinds of little tricks. He would hide his face with his paw, roll over, lay down, then put his head between his paws, she would make this 'beep beep' sound like a truck backing up, and the dog would walk backwards. Then she walked taking big steps and he walked between her legs weaving back and forth. It was so amazing!  I'm sorry to say I didn't catch the dog's name.  But here he is.

I have to show you these pictures of the most unusual Sheltie of the day. Her name is Blue.
Her color type is called a 'color headed white'. I just loved her. She is one of our fosters, so is up for adoption soon.

Yes. I was tempted. Sorely. Yes, I shall resist. Ben liked her too. Every time he saw her, his head went up.

Though he decided he would watch the festivities from the safety of our chairs. As soon as one of us vacated a chair, he was right up in it. No x-pens for Ben. No siree. He was glued to his chair.

Turns out he is an introvert after all.

Anyway, it was a nice day all in all, but by the time I got home, at about 3pm the little sore throat I had woken up with had turned into a cough, and I ended up on the couch with a fever of 101.8. I haven't been sick for over a year. I immediately figured I had Swine Flu. Went on line to find out about it, and they said to see the doctor if your fever gets to 102. Mine never did.
I still have a nasty weird cough, but the fever is pretty much gone and I don't feel that bad.
I hear that most people DO have just a mild flu, nothing to write home about. But here I am writing about it eh?

(We all feel so special too....)

Well I hope YOU don't catch the flu. I really do.

I'm staying home for the next two days. I don't want to pass anything around.

If Sunny was a Sheltie she'd look like Blue!
    Lots of handsome dogs there.

    Benjie Kent.

    All those beautiful dogs.

Was Sunny glad to see everyone, especially as she'd had the house all to herself? Well, with Fiona. She must have gotten some interesting news from Ben when he got home.

Yes, it arrived. I didn't thank you??!! I am so sorry! I'm hoping-hoping-hoping to get over to S Rosa one of these days, and the sooner the better. I will take pictures.

    I can't believe I didn't thank you.
