Bad Day In Peachland
Wed Sep 10 2008

I hate to bring up such a painful subject....

But my peaches seem to have a problem.

Some of them are rotten inside.

The ones that aren't rotten inside are not all that sweet to eat. I think we have a disease. I will salvage what I can, but I don't think I will be experiencing 'smash ripe peach into face' nirvana this year....

They aren't ALL effected by this disorder. But most of them are.

I'm afraid they will require pretty extensive amounts of sugar to be palatable.

Now I remember why I wasn't all that attracted to having an orchard of fruit trees. They are SO vulnerable to pests and disease.

Sigh.

Maybe next year.....

    I'm so sorry.
I know how much you look forward to them.

I had the same problem, but I didn't say anything because I thought it was because I let it sit for three days. But with careful work with the paring knife and the application of enough whipping cream and sugar it was still pretty good! ;-)

What a pity. I hope you find the problem. Peaches are such a delicious food, especially when they're tree-ripened!

    Bless

Fruit trees sound _complicated_! Does the disease have a name? Rotten core disease, I suppose, isn't likely.

That is too bad....I was looking forward to the photos of you cushioning your yard!

And I printed out your oatmeal recipe. We are going to try it, it looks like a treat, but mostly healthy! THANK YOU!

Blast !!! I have had off and on same problem with Peach,Pear, and Apple. Most offten it was at the early blossem time and very hard to figure out. I went to the County AG extenion office and that was best information in AR. I found out that my Apple trees I planted were planted too close to a large Junipter tree that the pollen gave off a blight to fruit trees within 150 Yards.
    Never did get a apple.

    Caught up now...

How about cooking them up with sugar for ice cream toppings. Pie? Good stuff like that (though I don't care for peaches as a rule, so that is the limit of my suggestions).
