Every year in our valley on one weekend, we have a huge yard sale.
There were several this time that were on Friday. A day I can shop! The majority of them are held on Saturday when I don't do money.
Anyway, I went to all the ones that were on Friday and found lots of useful things that were on my list.
I tagged along with S. on Saturday, mostly for the opportunity to spend some time with her. We went to one sale where I spied something that I thought I REALLY needed. I circled it, while developing a powerful desire for it. Alas, I could only look.
On Sunday when I woke up, I decided by golly, I was going back and see if they were still open and if that thing was still there I was going to buy it.
It was.
And I did.
Behold my five dollar cupboard:
Did you catch that?
Five dollars!
The woman I bought it from took it out of her previous house and brought it with her when she moved. I can see why she thought it was worth keeping. It has a certain something....
It's very rustic. I figured it would fit right in with my Wabi Sabi house.
It needed some attention however. Missing screws on hinges, a shelf that needed a support at the back, the knobs were missing and the door latches needed adjusting. I painted the underside of the shelves as they had some bad stains on them and my brother said he would help me hang it.
My friend C. has some scrap wood in her garage and told me I could take a few pieces for the repairs. [Thank you C.!]
I quick like, ordered some cupboard knobs from Amazon and thanks to two day shipping, I had them in hand for hanging day.
(You know that doesn't sound quite right don't you?)
Only YOU would come to such a conclusion in the middle of a discussion about cupboards.
This morning my brother came over with all his awesome tools and between the two of us we put it in its new home.
We started out with one idea, and then changed our minds about its placement. We were right.
Here's my new cupboard:
I just love it to bits.
I asked my brother, didn't it feel good to redeem it? He said that it was good for at least another twenty-five years. :-)
Here's what I put in it... for now...
To me, it seems like this house was just waiting for this cupboard. I love that it doesn't have a back and you can still see the wallpaper [which I really like] and it makes the interior nice and light.
I can't stop looking at it.
But eventually I'll have to.
I have an obligation to fulfill.
I owe my brother a chocolate cream pie.
